SMB/CIFS Downtime Thursday, February 17, 2022

EECS IT will be making a number of software changes to the departmental Linux file servers on Thursday, February 17, beginning at 1:30 PM. We expect the downtime to take about 2 hours. During that time, access to your EECS Linux files via the SMB/CIFS protocol will be intermittent or unavailable.

The following services will be affected:

  • The L: drive on EECS IT supported Windows computers.
  • Mounting your EECS Linux home directory, /research directory, or /storage directory from Microsoft Windows or Apple MacOS systems via SMB/CIFS.

The following services will NOT be affected:

  • Accessing you EECS Linux files from any EECS IT supported Linux systems including the Hydra, Tesla, or virtual VLSI lab.
  • Copying files between systems using SCP or SFTP clients such as WinSCP, Cyberduck, or SSHFS.

If you need access to your files during the downtime, please use an SFTP/SCP client. Alternatively, a temporary SMB server is available at samba.eecs.utk.edu. You can mount your home directory using:
Windows: \\samba.eecs.utk.edu\netid
MacOS: smb://samba.eecs.utk.edu/netid
(substitute your UTK NetID for “netid”)
