<note important>Altium Designer changed its licensing process for students in the Fall of 2025.  

Students must now register for an academic license by creating a new account at:

You must create a new account using the student registration link. It does not seem to be possible to convert an existing Altium account to a student license.  If you have already registered with Altium using your //netID@vols.utk.edu// email address, you may need to create a new account using your //netID@utk.edu// or //netID@tennessee.edu// alias.</note>



===== Registration Process =====

There are several steps to register for your account.  You sign up at [[https://www.altium.com/education/students]], verify that you're a member of an academic institution, complete a registration form, wait a few minutes for registration to complete and send you an email, verify your email, then finally activate your account and set a password.

  - Visit [[https://www.altium.com/education/students]] and click **Enroll for Free** {{ :knowledge-base:windows-topics:altium-1-landingpage.png?nolink&500 |}}
  - Sign up with your //netID@vols.utk.edu//, //netID@utk.edu//, or //netID@tennessee.edu// email address {{ :knowledge-base:windows-topics:altium-2-signup.png?nolink&500 |}}
  - Verify your academic status by entering **University of Tennessee** in the institution name field {{ :knowledge-base:windows-topics:altium-4-utklookup.png?nolink&500 |}}
  - Log into your UTK account to verify your NetID {{ :knowledge-base:windows-topics:altium-5-netid.png?nolink&500 |}}
  - You should be redirected back to Altium's website to complete the registration form {{ :knowledge-base:windows-topics:altium-6-registration.png?nolink&500 |}} {{ :knowledge-base:windows-topics:altium-7-regconfirm.png?nolink&500 |}}
  - Check your inbox for an email titled **"Your Altium Designer Student License Verification!"** and click the link to verify your email address.  It may take several minutes for the registration process to complete.   - Finally, check your inbox for a second email from Altium titled **"Student License Information for Altium Designer"**.  Click the link to Activate AltiumLive.   {{ :knowledge-base:windows-topics:altium-10-setpassword.png?nolink&500 |}}
  - You can now set your password to finalize your Altium Student account and download Altium on your computer.
